How Much Does Drain Cleaning Cost in Arizona?
September 13, 2026 · 6 min read

A clogged drain is one of the most common reasons homeowners call a plumber — and one of the most common questions we get is simply, "what's this going to cost?" The honest answer is that it depends on the clog: a simple bathroom sink is a very different job from a blocked main sewer line. Here's a plain-English breakdown of what drives drain cleaning prices so you know what to expect before you call.
Typical drain cleaning price ranges
Prices vary by region, plumber, and the specifics of your clog, so treat these as general ranges rather than a quote. Always get an upfront price before work begins.
- Simple drain (sink, tub, shower): the low end — a straightforward clog cleared with a hand or powered snake.
- Toilet clog: low to moderate, depending on whether it's a simple blockage or something lodged deeper.
- Main line clog (via cleanout): moderate — clearing the main sewer line where there's easy cleanout access.
- Main line with no cleanout access, or roof-vent access: higher, because the job takes more time and equipment.
- Hydro jetting: the high end — high-pressure water that fully scours the pipe walls, used for grease, scale, or recurring clogs.
- Camera inspection: often added when a clog keeps coming back, to see exactly what's happening inside the pipe.
What drives the price up or down
- Location of the clog — a fixture drain is quick; a main line buried in the yard is not.
- Severity and cause — grease, tree roots, and mineral scale from hard water are tougher than a simple hairball.
- Accessibility — an accessible cleanout keeps costs down; having to access through the roof vent or pull a toilet adds labor.
- Method needed — snaking is cheaper than hydro jetting, but jetting is sometimes the only thing that truly clears the line.
- Time of day — after-hours emergency service typically costs more than a scheduled daytime visit.
Snaking vs. hydro jetting: which do you need?
A drain snake (auger) punches through a clog and is perfect for most everyday blockages. Hydro jetting uses high-pressure water to scrub the entire inside of the pipe clean — it costs more but is the better choice for grease buildup, recurring clogs, or the mineral scale that's so common in West Valley plumbing. If a clog keeps returning after snaking, jetting (or a camera inspection) usually gets to the root cause.
Can you avoid the cost with DIY?
Sometimes. A plunger or a hand auger can clear many minor clogs, and our guide on how to unclog a drain walks through the safe methods. What we don't recommend is chemical drain cleaner — it can damage pipes, especially older ones, and often doesn't fully clear the blockage. If DIY doesn't work in a try or two, calling a pro usually costs less than the damage a forced fix can cause.
